Shovelhead Safety Check and Start
Mike RoenThe service on Mike’s Shovelhead is nearing completion. Everything has been adjusted, reassembled, refilled, and inspected. Prior to taking the motorcycle down the road for a test ride, Mike will start up the motorcycle in order to cycle the fresh motor oil and to make his final inspections.
With the bike running, Mike inspects for any possible fuel, or exhaust leaks. He inspects the motor, transmission, and primary drive for any possible oil leaks.
Mike then checks for proper electrical function. This includes inspection of high & low beams & high beam indicator, front & rear brake light function, turn signal and turn signal indicator function, passing lamps & running light function, neutral and oil pressure indicators, and speedometer light. This also includes a quick charging system test to verify that the motorcycle is correctly charging and replenishing the battery.
Mike adjusts engine idle and tops off the motor oil level. This Shovelhead is finally ready for the road!
