This is Evolution charging system, 32 amp, up to the year 1999. This is the crankshaft side of the motorcycle. Splined to accept the charging system. A permanently mounted coil of wire known as the stator bolts to the crank case. The plug comes out of the face of the crank case and a magnetic shell that is splined internally runs to the coil of wire. As this magnetic shell spins, it creates AC voltage through the coil of wire and out the stator plug in the crank case. From there it'll go to a regulator rectifier that plugs directly into the crank case. This rectifier not only converts it from AC voltage to DC voltage, but regulates it down to 14 volts. One lead will return back to the main breaker on the motorcycle. The other lead will go to a direct ground. The reason this outer rotor shell is clearly marked "caution no sharp blows" is due to the fact that the magnets are only glued into the metal shell. If impacted it'll disturb the glue, the magnet will come loose, and render the charging system useless.
