Hello everyone. I'm Bob LaRosa. Welcome to Fix My Hog. I want to welcome aboard Dennis Kirk. I've got a 2009 Sportster 1200C.
I went to www.denniskirk.com, entered in the particular model and year, and looked up what is most commonly the first thing that you want to upgrade on a motorcycle in a stock configuration. As a rule of thumb, no matter what the year, what the make, what the model of the motorcycle is, I like to put at least 2,500 miles on a brand new unit. This pretty much eliminates any catastrophic failures. Whether it be a gasket leak or an engineering flaw, usually an issue like that'll rear its ugly head before 2,500 miles. This particular unit has just about that mileage on it.
And I want to do a couple quick upgrades that not only add aesthetic value to the motorcycle but also add a performance gain. One being an exhaust system change, the other being an air cleaner change. And whether your motorcycle is fuel injected or carburetted, bear in mind, anytime you change an exhaust or an air cleaner or both together as a combo, you must address your air fuel mixture, fuel delivery to the engine. You don't want it running too lean or too rich because you changed from the factory stock configuration exhaust and air cleaner. On www.denniskirk.com, I punched in 2009 1200C.
I found a bunch of options for exhausts, air cleaners, and electronic control units for the fuel injection system. I also found a handful of jet kits if your motorcycle's carburetted. So now let's take a look at what we decided aesthetically to install on the Sportster and hopefully we'll get a nice sound, nice free flow into the intake track, and we'll also get a performance gain as a benefit to improving the look of the Sportster.
Why does a speedo become locked to the bike after 50kms ? Is there anyway to re use a speedo for another bike?
