Description

Mike Roen takes a moment to give us a rear brake switch tech tip. When the exhaust system is removed from your Harley-Davidson, it is the best time to visually and physically inspect your Harley-Davidson rear brake light switch. The exhaust system typically obstructs access to the rear brake switch.

With the exhaust system completely out of the way, it is much easier to inspect, test, or replace the switch. It is a good idea to replace the Harley-Davidson rear brake light switch as preventative maintenance when it is this accessible.

When replacing the switch, it is vitally important that one wrench is used to hold the brake switch fitting in the stock steel brake line. Not doing this may result in damage to the steel brake line assembly.

Brake light inspection should always be an important part of your pre-ride inspection. Braking and correct brake light function are extremely important for rider safety.

Hey, it's Mike Rowan. Fix My Hog. Just a quick little tech tip. Now we're doing this Evo Restore job here. We've done the top end, we're doing the whole motor we've got the exhaust off and something I like to do anytime I have the exhaust off doesn't matter what Harley you're working on or whatever, but typically I always check make sure is the brake light working? 'Cause if it isn't, this is a great time to go in and replace your brake light switch. So it's generally on most Harley's it's located right back here in the brake line somewhere and there it is. So it's not very accessible and the exhaust is on. So got the exhaust off. This one particular is one inch here five eights here 'cause you wanna support the brake line. You don't wanna stress it out and crack it loose. More than likely that switch has been updated to like a seven eighths or even smaller now. So it won't be that big old style anymore. But anyway, always pay attention. It's really important to have a brake light. So ride safe.
