Removing the Outer Fairing from a Harley-Davidson®

Bob LaRosa & Mark DiPietro
Duration:   2  mins

Description

Bob and Mark remove a Evolution style front fairing. They note the differences and that we should take time to remove the trim ship on the headlight and the bolts that sit behind the it that hold the inner and outer fairing together. You’ll have to remove several more bolts to remove the faring.

Let's review a few of the Evolution outer fairing changes. Mark will remove the outer-headlight trim ring which is held in place with one Phillips-style screw. You'll note there's a number of screws that attach the headlight bucket to the outer fairing. I also wanna note this motorcycle has a custom chrome trim strip. Without this trim strip, your bike would normally have five Phillips-head bolts. There will also be two half-inch bolts on each side of the fairing, retaining the passing-lamp bracket. With the headlight bucket removed out of the motorcycle, it'll give us a clear view. There are four 7/16ths retaining nuts that sandwich the outer fairing to the inner fairing by a steel bracket. I'll unplug the headlight bucket. I'd like to make a quick note. If you're gonna change your headlight, you don't necessarily have to remove the bucket from the fairing. You only really need to loosen these three Phillips-head screws. If you disturb the other Phillips' that you see, you'll change the pitch of the angle on the beam that the light throws on the road while you ride. I wanna note Mark's loosening the four 7/16ths bolts on the inner fairing. I also wanna re-iterate that there are five Phillips-style bolts that which will normally land behind this chrome strip, and there were also four half-inch fasteners that retain the passing-lamp bracket to the outer fairing.
