Bryce Canyon National Park is one of those almost magical feats of the elements that can leave you speechless and full of wonder. Take your first step into Bryce Canyon, and you’ll understand what it means to walk into another world.
The dreamscape of southwest Utah
Located just north of the border of Arizona and Utah, Bryce Canyon National Park is a massive stretch of rock, covering more than 35,000 acres of Paunsaugunt Plateau. This otherworldly park has been given many names since its discovery by Scottish settlers Ebenezer and Mary Bryce. Most notably, it has been dubbed “The Cave Without a Ceiling” for its thousands upon millions of hoodoos (stone columns) that were formed and continue to evolve due to insidious erosion. At any time, this magnificent field of towering rock will look unique to the day before.
Visitors of Bryce Canyon can find their way through the pinnacles and spyres of this decaying rock world by following a network of trails, key among them the Rim Trail. If hiking isn’t in your itinerary, you can also take a quick pitstop at one of the park’s wide range of viewpoints, from Inspiration Point to the Natural Bridge (even though it’s actually an arch). If you’re an adventurous explorer, you can also lose yourself in the maze of hoodoos that make up the Silent City, but be sure to remember the route you take! Treat yourself to a trip to Bryce Canyon National Park, and see with your own eyes why this one-of-a-kind creation of Mother Nature has been captivating visitors for centuries.
