2022 Harley Road Glide FLTRX Review and Ride

Description

While I was in Rhode Island, I was offered the opportunity to test out a 2022 Harley Road Glide. Now I know Rhode Island is not a highly discussed motorcycling destination like Deals Gap or the PCH, but the Ocean State really does have some great views and roads to experience, especially on the eastern half, where the roads wind along the coast of the oceans and bays. It’s surprisingly rural for the east coast, and due to the geographical isolation of the area, there is not a lot of traffic. It’s like a motorcyclist’s hidden gem, buried in the densely populated New England states.

So with my wife riding passenger, I set out to put the Harley through the paces, see the views of the ocean and countryside, and eat some excellent local seafood along the way.

Welcome to Ride and Rally with Fix My Hog. Hey, this is Ride and Rally with Fix My Hog. My name's Steve Knoble. We're here in beautiful Rhode Island, got a 2022 Road Glide. We're gonna take it around all the little islands, and coasts, and peninsulas in Rhode Island here. Some beautiful little windy roads that wind along the coast. So you got the ocean breeze coming in, you've got some beautiful scenery, some big amazing bridges and stuff too. So we're gonna start out here in Tiverton, wind over to Little Compton Beach, and then head on over to Newport across the big long bridge there. So, let's get to it. Here it is, the 2022 Harley Road Glide, FLTRX. This thing comes with a 107 Milwaukee-Eight engine, six speed, beefy brakes, navigation, boom audio package and all the touring niceties like big bags and storage compartments in the fairings, backrest, and of course, cruise control. So even on the short ride from Foxborough, Massachusetts, down to Tiverton, Rhode Island, I found this thing rides awesome. Not just as a bike but also with a passenger on the back. It's really well balanced. You don't have like the front end float or any weird handling this that I've ridden with some other passenger bikes. It still handles correctly almost as if the passenger's not even back there. So we started out the scenic part of the ride in Tiverton, Rhode Island. In Tiverton here, the road route winds along the coast. You gets some great views of the water, the bays, everything like that. And there's just a lot of times there's nothing but a little short waist high stone wall separating you from the ocean. Now we were lucky enough to do this ride around high tide. In between the high water and the breeze, you could really smell the ocean right as we cruise along. It was an amazing ride. Now back in 2014 I rode what was then a new Road Glide. Rode up the Sierra Nevada Mountains, great ride. But I can say Harley has really made some upgrades to this bike from then till now. And not just in the engine area obviously cause they have a twin cam and now it's in Milwaukee-Eight. But the 2014 seemed top heavy, got some weird fairing air and buffeting off the fairing. On this one the weight, balance and handling have been nicely improved. It's really well balanced, low center of gravity. The fairing is just a beautiful product. It really cuts through the wind really clean. Even at highway speeds, there's no buffeting, no weird reverse air push on the back of your helmet. They really knocked it outta park with this thing. From here, the road curves inland a little bit. The views change from ocean and water to rolling countryside. Now we have giant trees and more of those awesome stone colonial walls. For an Ohio boy who's used to looking at corn, this is amazing scenery, amazing place to ride. Really love taking it all in as we cruise along. We stopped by Little Compton Beach for a moment to scratch and take the views of the ocean. I've been swimming here in the past. It's a little bit more of a rocky beach than you're maybe used to. So you might want some beach shoes but it's still a great spot for dip in the sea. I found the navigation really easy to use. Pairing with my phone was really simple and just the whole operation of the thing was very intuitive. Now with the Harley Nav, you have the options of the fastest route, the shortest route, the scenic route are my favorite, curvy roads. And you can operate this system either by the touchscreen with your fingers obviously or you can actually use the buttons on the handlebar on your right side there, and you can scroll through the menus and make selections solely based on that. So you never really have to be reaching forward and try and touch the screen as you ride. [Navigation System Voice] Take the next left into Narragansett Boulevard. Now after the beach we headed north to find some great seafood. Luckily I know a place. Now I'm sure you've noticed while watching this there's not a lot of traffic around. This was a weekday, but since this is kind of geographically isolated from the rest of the state you don't get a lot of through traffic which of course makes for great motorcycling roads. Now my wife rode passenger for this ride. She said the seating position was great and the back rest had the proper location shape. However she did say the passenger seat was a little subpar for touring bike. All right, so anytime we're here in Tiverton, Rhode Island, gotta stop and get some seafood. So we're here at McCray's Seafood. Gonna get lobster roll. Great spot, stop in check it out if you're in the neighborhood. So after the meal, it was off to Easton's Beach in Newport, Rhode Island. So we're actually gonna swing back up towards Tiverton. Then we're gonna cross the Claiborne Pell Bridge which takes you over to Newport. Now this is one of the largest bridges in New England. The main span is like 1600 feet across, has great views and with a little luck you might even can see a naval ship pass by cause there's a major naval base right there. We stopped at Easton's Beach for a stroll. Has a great view. However, the beach was under a swim ban because of the red tide, so we didn't stay too long. So in summary, this bike may be built for traveling long miles and it does that amazing, but also work well for a commuter or even a canning car. If you get a chance, throw a leg over one. I doubt you'll be disappointed. So thank you for watching Ride and Rally with Fix My Hog. My name's Steve Noble. Keep riding and keep watching.
