Vance and Hines Trifecta for Power & Performance
It’s fairly common knowledge that the more air that you can move through your engine, the more power and torque that it is able to produce. It’s also well known that Vance & Hines is one of the top producers of aftermarket engine performance products. So it only makes sense that Vance & Hines parts should be at the top of your list if you are looking to upgrade the performance of your bike. The best part about choosing Vance & Hines products is that they produce parts for every stage 1 upgrade for your Harley, including the air cleaner, exhaust and fuel management. Upgrading just one of those components will provide noticeable gains, but when they are all properly upgraded together, they are a perfect trifecta and will greatly enhance the power and performance of your motorcycle. One combination that will do just that includes a VO2 air cleaner, Staggered Big Shots exhaust system and the FP3 fuel management system.
Let’s start at the beginning of the process: the air cleaner. The Vance & Hines VO2 air cleaner breathes much freer than the stock air cleaner, allowing more air to enter the engine for combustion. Vance & Hines offers a few options for this air cleaner, but one of the most popular is the Naked VO2. The Naked replaces the actual air filter, but keeps the stock air cleaner cover. By keeping the stock look of your Harley, you can turn it into a sleeper and shock everyone with the added power of the bike. Included in this air filter kit is a high-flow washable filter element, a backing plate with a larger inlet and billet venturi, which allows the engine to suck far more air compared to stock.
Of course, with more air coming in, more air must be able to come out. That’s where the Vance & Hines Big Shots Staggered exhaust system comes in. Vance & Hines have built their reputation on performance exhausts that are proven to enhance the output of your engine. One of the things that makes the Big Shots Staggered system so unique is the Power Chamber. The Power Chamber works as a hidden crossover system between the two pipes of the 2-into-2 system, which allows them to deliver the same amount of power and performance that would come from a 2-into-1 race system. This allows you to get an extraordinary amount of power and torque from a stylish 2-into-2 system.
The Big Shots produce a great sound with the 2 ¼” louvered-core baffles that come standard in the system. They are, however, fully removable and can be replaced with quiet baffles if you want to soften the sound a bit. The system comes with seamless full length heat shields and CNC machined end caps to give it a perfectly finished look. Vance & Hines exhaust systems have a reputation of fitting the bike well and should install without a hiccup on the specific bike and engine it is designed for. They are offered in either a chrome or black ceramic finish.
To ensure that you are reaping the benefits of the freer flowing air cleaner and exhaust system, you need to adjust your fuel management. One of the best and easiest ways to control a Harley fuel management system is by installing a Vance & Hines Fuelpak FP3. The FP3 is a direct plug-and-play unit that connects to the Harley HDLAN system and uses Flash technology to adjust and recalibrate the mapping and engine parameters for optimal performance with any bike setup.
Users of the FP3 can choose a specific mapping for all different engine components from the extensive Vance & Hines library or they can choose to use the Autotune feature. With Autotune, the FP3 will use all of the factory sensors on the engine to deliver the most precise air/fuel mixture, no matter the engine components or grade of fuel being used.
The FP3 can be synched to a smartphone through Bluetooth, which makes using it very simple and accessible. You no longer need to hook your bike up to a computer or dyno to get the correct mapping. When the FP3 is plugged in and connected to your smartphone, you can access the Live Sensor Data to see exactly how it is performing. The Live Sensor Data allows you to see the speed, RPM, cylinder head temperature, voltage, and gear selection as well as other vital engine information.
With this trifecta of components from Vance & Hines installed on your Harley, you will surely see a boost in power and performance. Each component works great on their own, but the whole is definitely greater than the sum of all the parts.
Be sure to watch the Fix My Hog installation videos for all three components and then check them out at Dennis Kirk.

I have these pipes on my 2001 Dina wide glide my fuel mileage is around 32 mpg I'm told it should be around 40 mpg or even more what do I need to do
We have a 2014 Heritage Softail Classic, FLSTC. I installed the (V&H) Naked air filter with the FP3. I like the sound of the stock mufflers (very quite). We also have a 1992 Heritage Softail Classic with over 111,000 miles on it no problems and still runs very strong. It has a Vance & Hines 2 into 1. Now that is loud ! Does our 2014 really need a muffler up grade ? I really like how quite it is. The Harley has plenty of power ! Thank You
Have had nothing but problems with my fpk3. Still talking to vance and hines.
All I would like to do is get a decent sound on my Ultra Classic, I dont want to stage 1 it, just some more noice, is this possible ie just purchase silencers and fit them ?
Is this setup California legal?
