Upgraded and Now It Stumbles

Question for Fix My Hog

Year: 2002, Model: Harley Standard

I rebuilt my engine to 95′ and put in a fueling upgrade cam plate and camshafts. Made upgrades to hydraulic, put in fueling reaper 525 cams in, and replaced the Screamin’ Eagle 211 cams. The bike already had a Screamin’ Eagle ignition system in it with a stock Harley carb, which I changed to an S&S. The bike used to rev to 5,200 rpm, but now it starts stumbling at 4,200 rpm. Does this have anything to do with the ignition system? When idling it will go up to 5,200 rpm.

Fix My Hog Answers

Going by your description, your issue sounds fuel related. It can likely be corrected by adjusting the accelerator pump on your S&S carburetor. It is important, however, that the carburetor is correctly jetted and that the mixture is correctly set prior to adjusting and setting the accelerator pump.
