Motor Mount

Question Can I change engine mounts on my Road King, I have a vibration around 40 – 50 mph, I had a new front tire put on and I`ve had it balanced twice.

A-orange If your front engine mount is old, it may need to be replaced. It will be similar to this video: Harley Motor Mount Removal and Replacement

First, put your bike in neutral at the speed where the vibration is worst. If it diminishes, it probably is NOT the mount. If it is the same, check your front wheel bearings and the rear fork rubber mounts. If you have sealed bearings, try wobbling the tire/wheel to check for excessive play. If there is no excessive play, jack up your bike so the rear wheel clears and try moving it side to side. ANY play is excessive and you should consider the rear swingarm mounts, but unless you have been off roading or have over 150,000 miles you mounts should still be good. Tighten ALL mount bolts and ALL bolts for that matter. How much weight is on your front wheel? They DID remove the old weights, didn't they? Anything over 1 1/2 ounces is cause for alarm or the tire was mounted improperly. If possible WATCH the balancing being done. Close is NOT good enough. FL's, especially Twin Cams should not require mount replacement for over 150,000 miles unless abused mercilessly. Dyna's---- replace mounts with every rear tire change or more often as usually needed. Harmonics of Harleys tend to wipe out longitudinal mounts quickly{Dyna's} but rarely affect FL's. How long since the REAR tire was balanced? Vibrations DO tend to "telegraph" their locations. Stranger things have happened, every day! My stupidly maintained 1993 FLHTP{one owner-ME} has over 315,000 miles and has factory wheel bearings, mounts, stabilizers, and neck bearings. Excessively over maintained? Not really. On my 2010 Fat Boy I had a vibration that could be felt in the handlebars when decelerating from 40 mph to 30 mph only. Tried re-blance of the front tire and stearing head adjustment but this did not fix the issue. I had this problem since the bike was new, and it continued when I replaced my front tire with another new Dunlop tire. Finally I replaced the front tire with a new Michelin Commander III tire and the problem immediately went away.

I have just bought a flhrci which is in poor condition and also has excessive vibration .It nearly shakes the front fender off !!!!....could this also be the front motor mount

I too was experiencing similar vibrations and replaced a much needed front (lower) mount on my 1997 HD Dyna Wide Glide (FXDWG) bike.. Letting the lock tight dryeforeI take outin a few hours.. I'm sort of concern because I cranked it up and looks like the vibrations have increased (engine night have been cold?).. Based on my Clymer Service Manual it calls for the bolts to be torque between 32 & 35 ft lbs.. Based on the response provided to the previous member.. Since my bike is almost 20 years old.. Would the same advise ( tighten to feel) apply? Thank you in advance for a prompt response...
