What if it’s a metal shifter shaft seal? I got an Evo 1995. Can I remove it from the outside or do I need to take off the primary case? Also do I replace it with metal replacement or are the new ones made from plastic?

You do not need to remove the outer primary cover to remove the shifter shaft seal. You can pierce the seal with a pick & pry it out. It does not matter if the seal is metal or metal/rubber coated.
