Harley Steering Head Bearing

Q: I have an 2007 Sportster that I’m going to upgrade the steering head assembly from a top mount headlight setup to a bottom mount setup. I have the assembly already and have watched the Harley steering head bearing pack, adjustment and fall away video. If I go to replace the triple tree and bearings, is it similar? Just remove the forks, steering head bolt and slide it off, pack and replace the bearings, and reassemble? Is that pretty much it?

A: Yes. It sounds like you are on your way. That is definitely the video you should be referencing. Be sure to also check your service manual as fall away may differ. inspect your adjustment once again when you get back from your first ride on those new neck bearings. They may “settle” some. You may want to re adjust.
