My first question is when removing the rim and tire from my Harley and reinstalling, why does it matter which direction the spacers are positioned? I noticed a referring line on the spacer as well as a slight taper on one side. Is this important and why does it matter which way it is placed on the axel shaft.
Second question, could you post a video about alignment? Also about a sidecar alignment. I realize they are rare and Harley Davidson no longer manufacturers them but I do own one. I must say it is a real treat to sport about with the sidecar. I have searched for basic maintenance, alignment and anything else but have had no luck. My book suggests a 1 degree tilt and 3/4 to 1 inch toe in. is this correct? How does this affect the motorcycle alignment since that can be adjusted as well? Do I need to adjust my air shocks when the sidecar is attached?
Also any ideas about changing a fuel filter on a Magnetti Marelli type injection?

Spacer direction does not matter on your year/make/model. There are models where it absolutely does matter. It’s just good mechanical practice. Reassembling parts back to exactly as they were. Working this way will greatly benefit you at some point. Remember: They say practice makes perfect. We prefer to say; perfect practice makes perfect.
An alignment video is a good idea. It is, actually, making its way up our list. The instructions for your sidecar alignment sound correct, although we have not installed a kit in a few years now. The manufacturer expects that the motorcycle is correctly aligned before their side car assembly is installed. Neck adjustment, swingarm bushings, wheel offset, tires should all be scrutinized over before installing a side car assembly. Air shocks should be filled according to overall load and rider/passenger preference.
We do not have a fuel filter video for your specific year and model. However, checking out these videos. They will be helpful as the process will be very similar.
