My ’95 Ultra Classic is getting up there and I’ve replaced a lot of parts, but one I’m having trouble with is the backer on the Gear Shift Assembly. It’s located inside the Tranny and there’s a piece of it missing, which gives me a lot of slop in the linkage. Do I need to tear the Tranny completely apart to change? Can’t seem to find anything on this particular situation.

Not quite sure what you are calling a “backer”. Sounds like you are referring to your shifter pawl assembly. We have a video for 5 speed transmission disassembly. Check it out.
