Hello all. I have a 2000 FLHT. Recently blew the engine to pieces and bought an ’05 engine with 23k miles on it. The engine was EFI original, set up was carb. I was told to change out the top (larger) cam gear and cam cover as well as the crank sensor and it should be plug and play. Well… it won’t start. I noticed that the cam gears are only able to be installed one way as they are ‘made to fit’ one way. Lots of fire, air, and fuel, and it will pop like it wants to start sometimes. Just wondering if I messed this up somehow. Thanks.

Sounds like cam timing might be wrong. You may need to retrace your steps and verify that your timing marks are correctly aligned.

I believe the original engine had a cam sensor. The cam sensor and crank sensor work together on the M&M efi set up. You will need the original cam/crank gear and original timing cover with the sensor in it.
I'd replace the crank sensor first.
