Question for Fix My Hog

Concerning the 500-mile Harley break-in period. Can this be done on on a lift with the bike strapped down and in gear? Or does it need to be under load while riding?

Fix My Hog Answers

Break-in procedure for a newly assembled engine should be done on the street. Yes, the motor should be under load, under normal riding conditions. Should try to stay under 2,500 RPM and not stay at one steady RPM for an extended period of time.

I have a 2017 sportster 883 I have lost my dash lights so currently finding neutral by feel. I can see my indicators working but no lamps on the dash. I have checked my fuses and they are ok. What’s my next troubleshooting step?

Hi, I just had a cam chest upgrade done in my 2000 Heritage. The tech didn't, and I forgot to ask what type of a break in period, milage and oil change needed if required.

My Harley Davidson dealership said on my 117cu/in Screaming Eagle that the break-in period was 1000 miles at a rpm less than 3k and no extended period of time at one rpm. So my question is what’s right 500 miles or 1000!?
