What I consider to be one of the most important upgrades on any motorcycle, aesthetically and performance orientated is the exhaust system. The Stock exhaust system obviously has to meet EPA mandated standards for the manufacturer and for the country the motorcycle's used in. They are typically heavy, they are typically bulky, they are quiet. They're muffled to keep the decibel noise of the motorcycle to an EPA mandated standards. We can remove the Stock's exhaust system. If the exhaust system is built with O2 Sensors in a particular location, they must remain in the system. So when you go to denniskirk.com you type in your particular model you have a plethora of exhaust systems to choose from. Don't just choose for aesthetics, what you like as far as style, whether it'd 1-into-1 or 2-into-1 system, but also look what the performance gain may be for your model. And also bear in mind if you're gonna ride a passenger make sure your passenger's gonna be comfortable on the motorcycle. With their feet on the pegs or the rear floorboards if that applies to your model. With the exhaust change, you don't wanna make an exhaust change that looks good, but now you can't ride a passenger or your passenger's uncomfortable because of it. You'll find all of the Dennis Kirk exhaust systems available for your particular model come with explicit instructions. Make sure you open them up, make sure you check the parts list, whether it's a 2-into-1 system or a 1-into-1 system or simply a slide-on slip-on muffler. Make sure you review the instructions, make sure they fit that particular model. Again, you can't do any upgrades on any motorcycle without the correct factory service manual. You'll need this, not only for fitment but for correct torque specs. This particular exhaust system that we chose for the Sportster is the Cobra Power Pro HP. It's typical to the original Power Pro. This has a 2-into-1, 3 1/2 inch diameter megaphone style. It is a black muffler, black full style heat shields. When I unpackage, I wanna make sure I caught everything and open it up carefully. You can see all of this product is wrapped. So you have no damage during shipping. You wanna make sure you open up, make sure all the parts according to the instruction sheet are included. Make sure if your motorcycle uses oxygen sensors that the allocation or the O2 bung is present in the pipe, front and rear. Make sure all the clamps, all the hardware are included. Make sure the mounting bracket is for your particular model. Typically the exhaust bracket that you will be changing will look similar to the one you're removing from the motorcycle. Make sure if it's a Sportster, you have a Sportster bracket, a Softail bracket won't fit if you try to put it on a Sportster, that'll apply with any exhaust system. Again, open up all the components, make sure nothing's damaged. Make sure that it's all packaged correctly. Check all your heat shields. If you bought a black exhaust system, make sure both the shields and what pieces should be black are black. That it's packaged correctly. Make sure the muffler assembly has been packed and treat it with care. Even though you're gonna put it on the motorcycle you're gonna take it out and ride it in the elements, don't damage it when you install it. You'll notice it has a nice black finish with a chrome end cap. And this is also a removable baffle, but bear in mind you need to run some type of restriction, whether it's 2-into-1 or 1-into-1, there has to be back pressure in order for the engine to operate correctly, not to make a popping noise or any type of deceleration noise due to a lean condition because everything's being allowed to exit the exhaust system without any back pressure coming back up the pipes to the engine itself. Cobra builds a very nice product, and it is made in the United States. As with any product you purchase make sure you review the warranties that are offered by the manufacturer and the supplier. In this case, denniskirk.com and cobrausa.com. Review their warranty information, understand what you're purchasing and what the manufacturer covers and considers coverable warranty issues. Obviously they don't warranty against discoloration. Discoloration, whether it be Chrome or a finished black system is primarily caused by mistuning. When I say mistuning, lean or rich your air fuel mixture not correct air cleaner exhaust combination. So do your homework, just don't buy an exhaust system because you liked the way it looks, and then buy an air cleaner because you liked the way it looks, make sure everything is compatible with each other. That is the biggest issue when it comes to tuning of fuel injected motorcycle. That components are not compatible with each other. Make sure a free-flowing air cleaner works well with the particular exhaust system you like or if you're hell bent on buying one type of exhaust, do a little research, find the best air cleaner to accentuate that exhaust system.
